Notice of Mechanical Harvesting Activity and Launch Closure

Updated: Aug 11, 2023

Mechanical harvesting activity that will be taking place in our lake over the next few days. The primary purpose of this activity is to manage the spread of Eurasian Water Milfoil (EWM), which remains above the surface in several parts of the lake.

Activity Schedule:

  • Thursday (August 10, 2023): Mechanical harvesting activity will be conducted.

  • Friday (August 11, 2023): Mechanical harvesting activity will continue until about 1:30pm when the launch will reopen.

  • Monday (August 14, 2023): The mechanical harvesting activity will continue.

  • Tuesday (August 15, 2023): The mechanical harvesting activity will conclude.

During these three days, the Hart Drive launch will be temporarily closed to ensure the safety of all individuals and equipment involved in the harvesting process. We kindly request all members to refrain from using the launch area on these days.

However, the Hart Drive launch will be open for regular use on the upcoming weekend:

  • Saturday (August 12, 2023)

  • Sunday (August 13, 2023)

The mechanical harvesting is an essential step in managing the Eurasian Water Milfoil infestation and maintaining the overall health of our lake ecosystem. The procedure is conducted by Midwest Aquatics based in Oconomowoc and is aimed at mitigating the growth of EWM in affected areas. According to our WDNR permit, we must cut in water depths of at least 3 feet and we are constrained to cutting only invasive species.

Please direct any question or concerns to commissioners@ldld.org.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work to preserve the natural beauty of our lake.
